I kind of like cooking. It’s a good feeling when you are able to nourish the people you love and that they also appreciate it. Besides the clean-up, another thing that I hate about the cooking part is preventing burns from oil splash or bubbling while deep frying.
I hate having burn accidents so I always have a burn ointment within reach in the kitchen – near the stove. That way, anytime I get burned or whoever gets burned will be able to apply the ointment.
As always, prevention is better than cure. I used to have a lid on my hand and the slotted spatula on the other – like a warrior on a battle field. I sometimes feel silly when I realize how I look like. It’s hard to look over the lid while trying to turn over a pork, fish or chicken on boiling oil. Then I found out about the splatter guard. I can look through it (if it’s a screened splatter guard) while turning over the food on boiling oil without endangering an oil splatter burn on my face. I think everyone should have a splatter guard in their kitchens. Whether you like cooking or not.
Another way to dodge the splatters would be using 4″ deep pans. Using deep pans instead of shallow ones minimizes the oil splatter but having a splatter guard on hand would up your oil burn probability.
I couldn’t find my old splatter guard so I think I’d be buying a new one on my next trip to the mall.
