Be An Organ Donor

As the post title goes, I think it’s pretty much obvious that I’d like to encourage you to be an organ donor.

Why?

It’s kind of a long story so feel free to skip this if you wish. Last week, I finally had the time to renew my driver’s license. It wasn’t a smooth experience but never mind that. If you remember, June is my birth month so technically, I have been driving with an expired license! If it weren’t for Jen’s (Next9) twit, I would still be driving around with a useless license.

Still doesn’t make sense?

You see, everytime you fill up that driver’s license form to renew your license, it will ask for all your details which includes an option to donate an organ. Well, not now, of course. It is a just in case thingy.

I have long been telling the husband about my intention to donate an organ in case I die. Kind of morbid. Ok, it’s really morbid. Of course, he does not like it but he will eventually get on my good side with this. *wink! wink!*

How does it work?

If you choose to have this option, you get to save somebody else’s life in the event that you kick the bucket.

How to sign up?

If you already have a driver’s license, it’s pretty easy. Just mark your option at the back of your driver’s license and you’re done. Keep the ID with you at all times.

Another option is to have an organ donor card. Simply download and print the ID images from here. Fill-out the card with the witnesses and have it laminated. Keep it with you at all times. Just like the driver’s license.

Here’s mine:

For more information, you can read this old article I found. Their Flickr and Facebook page also has more information.

So who’s up to be an organ donor?

Pretty morbid no? But reality is that everyone will come to that. Might as well prepare it besides the usual preparations.
